Greenville (S.C.) Hospital System announced a partnership with Cancer Support Community, a provider of social and emotional support for cancer patients and their caregivers.
GHS is the first U.S. hospital to integrate CSC's programs and services into the hospital setting and one of the first hospitals to implement CSC's CancerSupportSource, according to the release. CancerSupportSource is a web-based distress screening program that identifies a patients' current distress level, refers the patients to support programs and services and provides follow-up care. CSC programs also include a personalized assessment and care plan, support groups, health and wellness programs and educational programs.
GHS will offer CSC programs and services at no cost through its Center for Integrative Oncology and Survivorship, which will also provide oncology rehabilitation, yoga, acupuncture, massage therapy, music therapy and nutrition. The Palmetto Peloton Project, a local non-profit, is helping fund CSC's services and is providing $150,000 to $200,000 to build a survivorship suite on the ground floor of the GHS Cancer Center. Renovation of the ground floor is expected to begin this summer with completion slated for late fall.
