The Department of Veterans Affairs is amending a rule that restricts sharing information about treatment for certain types of medical conditions with the Department of Defense, according to a department news release.
The VA said the original rule impeded its ability to coordinate the care and treatment of veterans. The interim final rule allows the VA to share medical records for treating drug abuse, alcoholism or alcohol abuse, HIV and sickle cell anemia with the DoD.
