The South East Michigan Health Information Exchange has joined the Nationwide Health Information Network Exchange, a 20-member group of federal agencies and non-federal partners, according to a SEMHIE news release (pdf).
SEMHIE created its HIE using a $2.99 million SSA e-Disability Claims contract with the Social Security Administration. The contract enables SEMHIE to exchange summary patient information for disability determination between SEMHIE health systems' and providers' electronic medical record systems and the SSA. This process aims to reduce the national average wait for disability determination.
