The University of Florida in Gainesville announced that it is notifying 5,682 patients and parents of patients at the UF Health Pediatrics — Tower Square in Gainesville of a data breach.
An employee working at the medical practice may have used pediatric patient records to steal personal information including names, addresses, dates of birth and Social Security numbers. The employee has ties to an identity theft ring, but since he or she was assigned to access records as part of the job responsibilities, it is not possible to determine whether the information has been misused, according to the university.
UF is offering fraud resolution services and a call center support line for those affected by the incident.
