Report Provides Characteristics of Data Breach Vulnerability

A recent report from Trustwave, a provider of information security and compliance solutions, identified characteristics of organizations most susceptible to data breaches, according to a Trustwave news release.

Trustwave based the report on more than 300 breach investigations and 2,000 penetration tests performed in 2011.

Key findings from the report include:
•    Organizations allow employees and administrators to use weak passwords, such as "password1," which leave the organization vulnerable to data breaches.
•    Be wary of attachments. They often carry viruses that attack software systems and technological services.
•    Organizations with multiple locations are susceptible to data breaches due to homogeneity across software systems.
