Massachusetts REC Leads Nation in Recruiting Physicians

The Massachusetts Regional Extension Center has recruited more than 2,500 physicians in helping them adopt electronic health records and achieve meaningful use, according to a Government Health IT news report.

This makes the Massachusetts REC the top recruiter of physicians among the country's 62 total RECs. RECs were created under the HITECH portion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to provide technical assistance and support to healthcare providers switching from paper-based medical practice to EHRs. With funding from the ONC, the goal of the RECs is to provide technical support and education to at least 1,000 physicians in the first two years.
