Boulder (Colo.) Community Hospital is the first hospital in the state to begin sharing patient data through Colorado's health information exchange, according to a Daily Camera news report.
So far, 22 healthcare organizations have agreed to electronically share patient data through the HIE. Boulder Community Hospital is currently able to send lab results, imaging reports, physicians' transcriptions and discharge summaries to the HIE and expects to eventually send patient medication lists, allergy information and immunization records.
The Colorado Regional Health Information Organization, which oversees the HIE, hopes to have 85 percent of all Colorado healthcare providers participating in the network by 2015, according to the news report.
