Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, Vt., which recently affiliated with Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt., now has a roving telemedicine unit that allows physicians at CVMC to communicate with those at Fletcher Allen, according to a Fletcher Allen news release.
The unit is a computer monitor on a cart with a camera that is remotely controlled from Fletcher Allen and can transmit images and sound. CVMC plans to use the roving unit in the ICU and emergency department to consult with Fletcher Allen physicians on difficult cases. The telemedicine capability is part of an ICU improvement initiative that the hospital will continue to work on during the coming year.
