Houston-based Memorial Hermann Healthcare System has created the city's first health information exchange, according to a hospital news release.
The Memorial Hermann Information Exchange will store patients' medical records for use by their providers. The exchange includes three components: The MHiE Clinical Information Exchange provides authorized users access to patients' health information and creates an integrated patient record by aggregating continuity of care documents. The MHiE Diagnostic Test Orders and Results component provides access to diagnostic test results, and the MHiE Image Gateway provides access to medical images.
The hospital plans to add a Patient Health Record component in the system so patients can communicate directly with their physicians and monitor their own medical information.
