The Minnesota Health Information Exchange has merged into an exchange created by Community Health Information Collaborative, according to a Star Tribune report.
The state HIE, which launched in 2007, focused on the Twin Cities metro area and involved Minneapolis-based Allina Hospitals and Clinics, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, HealthPartners, Medica, UCare and the state Department of Human Services.
CHIC, a non-profit organization founded in 1997, started building its health information network in 2007 and focused on rural areas. The network includes 10 hospitals, 50 clinics, two long-term care facilities and three federally qualified healthcare clinics.
The Minnesota Health Information Exchange merged with CHIC's network to save costs and avoid duplication of efforts.
