The Heffernan Memorial Healthcare District in Calexico, Calif., has been awarded nearly $50,000 to support its telemedicine initiative, according to an Imperial Valley Press report.
The grant, awarded by the California Healthcare Foundation, will be used to pay for specialist physicians, installation of the technological infrastructure and marketing. The district aims to launch the initiative by the end of the year and will start by offering only endocrinology services; services will be expanded over time.
El Centro (Calif.) Regional Medical Center's Calexico Clinic will host the telemedicine program and will provide patient side staffing. The University of California, San Diego, will provide equipment and specialist physicians.
