The American Telemedicine Association recently urged CMS in a letter (pdf) to revise Medicare's conditions of participation for hospitals regarding telemedicine.
The ATA said hospitals that operate key services should be expected to assure services are "sufficient, appropriate and always available for those patients with critical and immediate needs," according to the letter.
The organization then recommended that the language within Medicare's conditions of participation reflect telemedicine options in the following areas:
• Emergency services
• Stroke care
• Intensive and critical care services
