The American Medical Association has announced the 10 finalists (five in each of two categories) of the first ever AMA App Challenge, according to an AMA news release.
AMA members can vote for their favorite app idea in each category, which is based on the submitter — physicians or residents/fellows/medical students — until Sept. 30. The winner in each category will receive $2,500 in cash and prizes and a trip for two to New Orleans where their idea will be unveiled at AMA's semi-annual policymaking meeting.
The app ideas of physician finalists include the following:
1. Medical Calculator Series: Breast Cancer. This app helps gives physicians access to the major calculators and tools used to assess breast cancer and treatment risks.
2. Rounder. This app allows physicians to document patient information during rounds.
3. What's Not Covered. This app helps physicians determine what bacteria/fungus/mold/parasite/virus is not covered by a patient's antimicrobial regimen.
4. Mobile Surgery Card. This app gives physicians access to templates with material/device preferences for a particular surgery.
5. DutyHours. This app tracks and logs residents' time, categorizes hours and organizes patient lists.
The app ideas of resident, fellow and medical student finalists include the following:
1. AMA Physician Advocacy. This app provides advocacy information and connects users to other advocates.
2. Residency Application Tracker. This app helps fourth-year medical students track residency applications, interviews, program notes and communications.
3. Physician Disaster Preparedness. This app provides preparedness education, information regarding disasters and disaster assistance opportunities.
4. JAMA Clinical Challenge. This app allows users to test diagnostic skills using case studies.
