Broadwater Health Center in Townsend, Mont., has received $500,000 by the chairman of the board of the State Bank of Townsend to stave off a possible closure, according to an Independent Record report.
J. William Kearns Jr. gave a $100,000 donation and a $400,000 loan to the nine-bed hospital, and Broadwater County has granted a $120,000 loan to the hospital.
Broadwater Health Center is facing significant financial problems. Among its losses, the hospital has roughly $70,000 in overdrafts from the last two payrolls, and it is owed more than $800,000 for patient care already delivered, according to the report.
The state closed the hospital and its nursing home in July due to noncompliance with certain standards of care. The hospital reopened earlier this month.
