Google is adding health insurance cards to its digital wallet to make it easier for patients to furnish that information to healthcare providers.
The tech giant is working with Humana to develop a digital version of the payer's cards to save to Google Wallet. "This will provide Humana's members a convenient way to access their insurance information swiftly and securely right from the palm of their hand," Jenny Cheng, vice president and general manager of Google Wallet wrote in a June 1 blog post.
Unlike loyalty cards or event tickets, insurance cards will have a "private pass" label because they contain sensitive information, Ms. Cheng wrote. They will require users to enter their fingerprints or PINs to access them.
