6 Hospitals and Health Systems That Recently Awarded Executive Raises

Here are seven stories within the past five months about hospital executives who received compensation raises, starting with the most recent.

1. The board of directors for Fort Worth, Texas-based JPS Health Network unanimously voted to award President and CEO Robert Earley a $95,000 raise, bringing his total salary to $620,000.

2. Jim Valenti, CEO of University Medical Center in El Paso, Texas, will have a base salary of $430,580 after he received a 1.5 percent merit raise.

3. Several members within the Southern Humboldt Community Healthcare District in Garberville, Calif., voiced their discontent at a public meeting after the board approved a new contract with Administrator Harry Jasper, which included a raise of $78,000. Mr. Jasper will now earn $180,000 per year.

4. Larry Anderson, CEO of Tri-City Medical Center and Tri-City Healthcare District in Oceanside, Calif., will receive a $15,000 salary raise, making it his second raise in the past 13 months. Mr. Anderson's base salary will now be $515,000, up from $500,000. In Nov. 2010, the board voted to raise his pay from $480,000 to $500,000.

5. The University of California regents recently approved raises for several executives within the system, including a 23 percent raise for Vincent Johnson, COO of the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, Calif. Mr. Johnson's salary will now stand at $553,500. Ann Madden Rice, CEO of the UC Davis Medical Center, recently received a raise of $259,000, bringing her total compensation to $960,000 per year.

6. The board of directors at Mountain View, Calif.-based El Camino Hospital approved salary increases averaging roughly four percent for the hospital's top nine executives. The salaries will range from $196,560 to $442,031.
