Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kaleida Health may decrease its inpatient beds by 13 percent in its new $200 million Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo, according to a Buffalo Business First report.
An analysis of utilization in the area suggested a 14 percent decrease in pediatric and OB/GYN volume in the Western New York market over eight years and growth in outpatient services. A hospital steering committee, in conjunction with consultants, thus recommended the new hospital house 174 inpatient pediatric beds compared with the current facility's 200 beds.
The team also recommended including 13 labor and delivery and triage rooms, 36 emergency department and observational rooms; eight inpatient operating rooms; and eight ORs in the new ambulatory care center that will be built adjacent to the hospital. In addition to a new hospital and ambulatory center, Kaleida Health's project includes a 500,000-square-foot medical office space.
