In January, healthcare employment climbed by 70,300, above the 12-month average of 58,700.
The finding is from an Altarum analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics data released Feb. 20.
Four other findings from the analysis:
1. Within healthcare, nursing and residential care facilities added 16,500 jobs last month.
2. Ambulatory care settings added 33,400 jobs in January, and hospitals added 20,400 jobs.
3. Last year, the job openings rate in healthcare and social assistance was 7.6%, marking the second-highest rate since data collection began in 2001.
4. Healthcare wage growth in December 2023 was 2.9% year over year, with growth being highest in nursing and residential care, at 4% year over year, followed by ambulatory care settings at 2.9% and hospitals at 2.4%.
