The novel coronavirus outbreak presents a potential human resources issue for companies around the country, according to CNBC.
Two CNBC surveys of financial and technology executives found more than a third of companies have workers who are "stranded" as a result of coronavirus. Some employers have started taking preventive action to cancel major conferences and encourage employees to work from home in response to the outbreak.
Many employees can perform their jobs sufficiently while working remote. However, CNBC notes that remote work becomes complicated for employees who are not salaried or may not have paid time off. CNBC cited a survey from Trust for America's Health, a public policy organization, that finds 55 percent of American workers do not have paid time off. This, added to a work culture in the U.S. that is averse to taking sick days and time off, could create significant issues for employers in the coming months, according to the report.
