Members of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania at Regional Hospital of Scranton (Pa.) voted Tuesday to send a 10-day strike notice to the hospital and hold a strike Nov. 13, according to a report by The Times-Tribune.
The hospital has not yet received an official notification of the union's plan to strike, according to an emailed statement. "Providing quality patient care is our highest priority and it will continue without interruption regardless of the union's plans," the statement says.
The union represents about 800 employees at the Regional Hospital of Scranton, or about 80 percent of its workers.
The contract between the union and the hospital expired Feb. 28, and contentious issues include staffing levels, the possibility of outsourcing and salaries, according to The Times-Tribune.
One negotiation session is scheduled between now and the day of the potential strike. "We remain committed to the collective bargaining process and hope that a mutually acceptable agreement can be reached," the hospital's statement says.
