Asheville, N.C.-based Mission Health plans to lay off about 70 employees and make other employee-related budget cuts, according to a News 13 report.
In addition to the layoffs, the system has eliminated three vice president positions, done away with merit increases for 2014 and frozen paid time off accruals, among other cuts. Further, Mission President and CEO Ronald Paulus, MD, will cut his pay by 26 percent for 2014, and other senior leaders at Mission will have their pay docked 13 to 20 percent, according to the report.
The layoffs and drastic budget cuts are a result of the federal sequester, the state's failure to expand Medicaid and other changes from healthcare reform, according to the report.
