Uniontown (Pa.) Hospital plans to close four departments by the end of the year, affecting roughly 70 employees, according to a Herald Standard report.
The closing departments are the progressive care center, the behavioral health unit, outpatient rehabilitation services and the diabetes center, according to the report. The hospital will phase out the services through the end of the year.
Hospital officials stress the closures should not lead to any layoffs because Uniontown has been building up vacant positions since July. "By December, we should have a sufficient number of vacancies to move those department workers into those positions," a hospital spokesperson told the Herald Standard.
Uniontown is closing the departments because of lower inpatient volumes and reduced reimbursements from Medicare and Medicaid, according to the report.
