Job openings in the healthcare and social assistance industries rose in April to 910,000, the highest number in more than 14 years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Here are three things to know about the record number of listings.
1. The 910,000 listings compares with 810,000 listings in March 2015.
2. The 910,000 listings nearly doubled the 513,000 people who were hired, meaning there were about 1.8 jobs available for each person hired, according to Bloomberg.
3. Job openings increased over the 12 months ending in April for many industries with the largest changes occurring in professional and business services and in healthcare and social assistance. Healthcare and social assistance job openings went from 661,000 in April 2014 to 910,000 in April 2015, while professional and business services job openings went from 866,000 in April 2014 to 1.1 million in April 2015.
Note: The Bureau of Labor Statistics groups the healthcare and social assistance industries together.
