Healthcare workers may not be considered professional athletes, but perhaps they should be, considering how much they walk every day.
Fitbit surveyed its device users to find the occupations with the largest percentage of workers who walk more than 10,000 steps a day walk the most. Occupations in healthcare came in at No. 2.
Listed below are the five occupations with the highest percentage of workers who walk more than 10,000 steps per day, according to the Fitbit survey.
1. Teachers — 24 percent walk more than 10,000 steps per day (average: 12,141 steps)
2. Healthcare professionals — 23 percent (12,136)
3. Software developer/programmer — 20 percent (12,161)
4. Administrative/clerical worker — 18 percent (12,453)
5. Salesperson —15 percent (12,225)
"With days spent checking on patients in huge hospitals and filling prescriptions, it's no surprise that healthcare professionals like doctors, nurses and pharmacists spend the majority of their days on two feet," the survey states.
