Wyoming Medical Center enters into telestroke partnership with 2 hospitals

Casper-based Wyoming Medical Center launched telestroke partnerships with Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas, Wyo., and Sheridan (Wyo.) Memorial Hospital.

The partnerships will connect emergency room physicians in the Douglas and Sheridan hospitals with neurologists at Wyoming Medical Center, allowing them to collaborate remotely on stroke cases. Wyoming Medical Center's Primary Stroke Center is the state's only center certified by The Joint Commission.

Wyoming Medical Center will equip its TeleStroke partners with InTouch Health's Vici robot at no cost to the hospitals. The Vici is a scalable, mobile cart system that enables Wyoming Medical Center stroke specialists to examine and speak with patients and ER physicians in the Douglas or Sheridan hospitals. The system also allows for sharing of patient medical history and vital signs in real time.

TeleStroke is TeleMed Wyoming and Wyoming Medical Center's first offering through its telehealth program that aims to connect Wyoming hospitals and physicians.

"TeleStroke Wyoming allows WMC neurologists to actively participate in patient care and decision making from the moment the patient arrives at their local hospital," said David Wheeler, MD, PhD, medical director of the Primary Stroke Center at Wyoming Medical Center.
