OnMed, a health technology company, is rolling out interactive telemedicine stations that patients can enter for virtual consultations with a physician.
Patients are first identified with the OnMed Station's 3D facial recognition. Built with privacy glass, the exam room uses thermal imaging to measure the patient's body temperature and diagnose infection. Physicians can diagnose and treat patients by communicating through the station's video and audio technology. The station also features ultraviolet surface and air sanitization technology to eliminate pathogens after each individual visit. After the virtual visit, the station can dispense prescriptions on the spot through a secure, automated vault.
Additional features of OnMed's station include blood pressure and oxygen saturation readings as well as measurements of height, weight and body mass index.
"When it comes to delivering a comprehensive [physician]/patient encounter via telemedicine, sometimes our phone just isn't the answer," OnMed CEO and founding partner Austin White said in a news release emailed to Becker's Hospital Review. "We need the accuracy provided by a live face-to-face visit using the latest diagnostic tools, and the ability to receive medication all in one sitting."
OnMed Station units will be deployed in U.S. colleges, airports and hotels, among other locations this year.
