Telehealth usage decreased by 79% from 2020 to 2021

National telehealth utilization declined by 79 percent from 2020 to 2021, according to Fair Health's Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker. 

The Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker uses Fair Health data to track how telehealth is evolving year over year and found the following trends in usage from 2020 to 2021:

  • From 2020 to 2021, urgent care telehealth usage increased by 14 percent.

  • From 2016 to 2021, national telehealth utilization grew 5,017 percent due largely in part to the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • In 2021, telehealth had the largest increase of medical claim lines, claiming 3.7 percent nationally.
