Linville, N.C.-based Charles A. Cannon, Jr. Memorial Hospital launched a partnership with TeleHealth Solution to provide its patients with 24/7 remote hospitalist coverage Aug. 28.
Under the partnership, a remote physician conducts a patient examination using digital stethoscopes, otoscopes, aspirators and blood pressure monitors, among other devices, with the support of an on-site nurse. The remote physician will continue to manage the same patient throughout his or her stay.
Charles A. Cannon, Jr. Memorial Hospital first partnered with TeleHealth Solution in October 2016 to offer night services. However, officials expanded the contract after noting how it helped decrease hospital transfer rates.
"We're keeping patients we would have historically transferred, so this partnership is a very positive thing for us and our community," said Carmen Lacey, president of the hospital.
