Intermountain Healthcare, a 22-hospital system in Salt Lake City, launched a virtual hospital services program, called Intermountain Connect Care Pro, Feb. 28.
Here are three things to know about the program.
1. The Intermountain Connect Care Pro program comprises 35 telehealth programs and 500-plus caregivers, and provides basic and advanced medical care to patients.
2. Intermountain officials noted the virtual hospital program does not eliminate the need for onsite caregivers, but rather supplements rural communities by providing access to specialized services not typically available at rural hospitals.
3. The program is available at all of Intermountain's 10 rural hospitals, as well as nine hospitals outside of the health system. Intermountain officials said they hope to extend the virtual hospital services to communities in underserved areas and potentially place patient kiosks or access devices at various community facilities, such as homeless shelters, schools or jails, to make care more accessible.
