Indiana VA Hospital links with Cincinnati physicians for teleICU

The VA Northern Indiana Health Care System facility in Fort Wayne connected its intensive care unit and emergency room to a Department of Veterans Affairs teleICU hub in Cincinnati June 14, The Journal Gazette reports.

The Fort Wayne facility marks the fifth Veterans Integrated Service Network system to link up to the teleICU hub, hosted by the Cincinnati VA Medical Center. Physicians and nurses in Cincinnati will be able to remotely monitor and assess the vital signs of patients at the Fort Wayne facility.

James Dougherty, MD, associate chief of staff for acute medicine at the Fort Wayne facility, told The Journal Gazette the teleICU will reduce the need for critical-care patients with complex medical conditions to transfer to another hospital.
