The COVID-19 pandemic has expedited many hospitals' adoption of virtual care, which can serve as an entry point to a better healthcare experience by quickly guiding patients to the care that's right for them.
During a Feb. 4 webinar hosted by Becker's Hospital Review and sponsored by Teladoc Health, industry leaders discussed how virtual care can improve patients' care journeys.
The speakers were:
- Joe DeVivo, president of hospital and health systems, Teladoc Health
- Shayan Vyas, MD, vice president and medical director of clinical operations, Teladoc Health
They addressed five key points:
- Understand how technology enhances the patient experience. A hospital's "digital front door" delivers immediate convenience in a format patients adopt on their own terms. In-depth healthcare consumer insights can work in concert to create meaningful experiences, and over time, data enables the personalization of each patient's care journey, building trust along the way.
- Remove barriers to care and extend healthcare access through virtual health. Telehealth initiatives can increase access to affordable and convenient care, especially for hard-to-find specialty care. Patients appreciate access to personalized care that accounts for their preferences related to gender, language and personal health habits.
- Augment and extend care delivery through virtual health. Telehealth initiatives should enable episodic and longitudinal care across a patient’s entire health journey. Through data, telehealth systems should build a complete understanding of each patient that drives better health outcomes with proprietary health signals and personalized interactions along the full continuum of care.
- Elevate quality across multiple domains and deliver it at scale. Each interaction should fuel an active learning environment, as virtual care platforms make data from connected devices available in real-time to generate a feedback loop that nudges behavior. This infusion of data, translated to actionable insights, enables whole-person care.
- Foster clinical collaboration through virtual care platforms. Integrated virtual care platforms allow for greater collaboration among clinicians and strengthen care delivery by connecting specialty and front-line clinicians across care settings.
