Every state introduced new or updated telehealth bills in 1st half of 2021

More than 1,000 telehealth-related bills have been introduced across all 50 of the state legislatures since the start of the year, according to the American Telemedicine Association.

After the sharp uptick in telehealth use during the COVID-19 pandemic, the ATA has submitted more than 80 formal comment letters this year and has worked with 41 states on legislation related to virtual care, the ATA said in a June 8 news release.

In 2021, the ATA has given testimony in person or virtually at legislative committees in 13 states and has helped 23 telehealth bills get passed into law. The group said several other bills have momentum and have a high chance of passing.
