Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Erlanger Health System will use telemedicine technology to extend neurology and stroke care to patients at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Ga., according to a Dec. 9 Chattanoogan report.
The new program aims to increase access to specialty trained stroke neurologists and enhance care provided at Floyd Medical Center's primary stroke center. Erlanger Health's specialists can leverage telemedicine to consult with Floyd Medical Center clinicians and help diagnose patients who are experiencing signs of stroke.
By using telemedicine, Floyd Medical Center patients can be treated for stroke closer to home without having to be transferred to another hospital. The 304-bed acute care hospital has advanced certification for its primary stroke center from the Joint Commission, according to the report.
