Austin (Texas) Regional Clinic and the telemedicine company CirrusMD have partnered to offer local employees 24/7 access to remote healthcare.
The program, called eMD Access, will launch this spring as a service for employers in central Texas to offer their employees as part of their benefits. The service is limited to local employers, because Austin Regional Clinic will require participants to visit for an initial in-person meeting to review their health history prior to receiving remote care.
After this initial appointment, participating employees will be able to connect with the clinic's physicians via secure text message or video conference. Austin Regional Clinic physicians can write prescriptions and order tests for patients; however, the clinic stressed they are not a substitute for emergency or primary care.
The CirrusMD platform will also allow patients to view their health records from their telemedicine visits, which they can share with their primary care physician.
