"Hospital supply chains are under increasing pressure to slash inventory levels and optimize labor in order to reduce costs. Gone are the days when they could rely on informal ordering processes to replenish inventory," says Robert Jones, director of logistics at Medline.
Mr. Jones shared the following tip with Becker's:
"Forward thinking institutions should utilize modern inventory replenishment systems to ensure optimal performance. [These systems] can help eliminate inefficient orders, calibrate the right amount of inventory and ultimately reduce labor effort in the replenishment process. Additionally, hospitals should consider online reporting tools that offer real-time data on purchasing decisions and ensure contract compliance, price parity and optimal utilization."
