Sterilization tool earns FDA approval for additional uses

Getinge Group, based in Wayne, N.J., earned approval from the Food and Drug Administration for expanded indications of its Sterizone VP4 Sterilizer.

The Sterizone VPS sterilizer is a low temperature sterilization system that uses vaporized hydrogen peroxide and ozone to disinfect heat and moisture-sensitive medical devices.

The sterilizer is now approved to sanitize colonoscopies, gastroscopes and various other long, complex endoscopes.

"With these expanded indications, in addition to our current global efforts to commercialize in acute care facilities, we plan to introduce low-temperature sterilization into GI and endoscopy clinics, which are currently using only high-level disinfection, " said Joacim Lindoff, president of Getinge Group.
