FedEx pleaded not guilty to charges that the company illegally delivered controlled substances and prescription from online pharmacies to U.S. consumers without valid prescriptions, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.
The shipping company faces 15 felony counts that it conspired with illegal online pharmacies to deliver the drugs.
The indictment says Congress informed FedEx "on no less than six different occasions" that illegal pharmacies were shipping drugs using its services, but FedEx said it never was told to stop servicing specific pharmacies, according to the report.
FedEx also refuted the alleged profit from shipping the illegal drugs, which prosecutors quantified at approximately $820 million, according to the report.
If found guilty, FedEx could face up to $1.6 billion in penalties.
