White House launches site to reduce health impacts of extreme heat

The Biden administration has unveiled a new website, heat.org, aimed at preventing the negative health effects of extreme heat, NBC News reported July 26.

The site provides heat maps and data to give local insight into how heat may affect communities and how to prepare for such weather conditions. The website also helps people identify the communities most vulnerable to the health effects of heat. It includes forecasts and data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the CDC.

"President Biden has directed us to respond to the extreme heat gripping the nation," said Gina McCarthy, the White House national climate adviser. "Extreme heat is a silent killer, yet it affects more Americans than any other weather emergency — particularly our nation's most vulnerable."
