CHS' Lutheran Health Network CEO to give up title in strategic move

Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Lutheran Health Network Vice President and CEO Mike Poore revealed he is planning to give up his title as chief executive, The Journal Gazette reports.

Mr. Poore told the publication he plans to keep his title as regional vice president but is looking for someone to help lead the system while he focuses on the system's strategic initiatives.

He said the job listing was initially advertised as the newly created position of COO, but he was having trouble finding candidates to fill the role.

Mr. Poore took over the role of CEO of Lutheran Health Network after the system's parent company, Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, fired the former CEO Brian Bauer in June 2017.

Lutheran Health Network and CHS have had a rocky relationship with local hospital leaders in recent years. In 2017, a group of physicians offered to buy out the health network, claiming CHS mismanaged the hospital network and its more than 7,000 employees, the report states.

Mr. Poore told The Journal Gazette that overall staff morale has improved during his 18-month stint as chief executive.
