At Allscripts, we’re excited to learn that Celia Wallace—who co-founded Southern Medical Health Systems, which includes Springhill Medical Center—is being honored this year by the Alabama Healthcare Hall of Fame, which recognizes healthcare professionals who have made outstanding contributions to, or rendered exemplary service for, healthcare in the State of Alabama. Ms. Wallace has been a driving force in the healthcare industry for nearly 50 years.
“Ms. Wallace didn’t run away from the challenges of running the hospital, she ran straight at it. She insists that we look beyond the forward curve to bring the best technology and practice to the hospital,” Springhill Medical Center President and CEO Jeff St. Clair said.
Ms. Wallace has been involved with many initiatives throughout her career, which have led to creating close to 2,000 long-standing healthcare jobs in Alabama. Springhill Medical Center is the largest solely owned hospital in the U.S.
Valuing an integrated clinical and financial platform
Springhill first implemented the Allscripts Sunrise™ EHR in 2004, adding Allscripts Sunrise Surgical Care to help improve operational efficiency and deliver a higher quality of care and better perioperative experience for its patients, surgeons and clinicians.
“We’ve got a great team using Allscripts Sunrise, which is a flexible, powerful acute solution,” St. Clair said in 2015. “These are the critical components in our work to continuously improve the quality of patient care.”The center also uses Allscripts Managed IT Services, outsourcing its entire information technology department. The partnership between Allscripts and Springhill earned Outsourcing Center’s Best Outsourcing Partnership award for three years.
Achieving a valuable benchmark as an entirely paperless operation
In 2015, Springhill used the Sunrise platform to achieve Stage 7, the highest level attainable, on the HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption ModelSM (EMRAM). The Allscripts suite of applications provided the foundation for Springhill to achieve the Stage 7 designation.
Springhill partnered with Allscripts, the first certified educator of HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model, to prepare for this accomplishment. Allscripts helped Springhill identify steps needed to be taken to reach Stage 7. The flexibility and comprehensive nature of the Allscripts Sunrise solution helped Springhill meet this goal within six months.
