A proposed partnership between Clearwater, Fla.-based BayCare Health System and Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Hospital is one of the latest examples of hospitals' strategy to consolidate healthcare services to better manage patients' health through the continuum of care, according to a Sarasota Herald-Tribune report.
The potential partnership between BayCare and Sarasota may involve sharing certain business functions. While there are not many details on the potential relationship, leaders of both organizations expressed a strategy of moving the center of patient care from the hospital to the physician's office, and if possible, to the home, according to the report.
Partnering would create a larger patient base for BayCare and would help the institutions maintain financial strength as payment models change under healthcare reform, according to the report.
