Ocean Medical Center in Brick, N.J., has broken ground on an $85 million expansion project, according to an Asbury Park Press report.
The project will increase the emergency department from 12,075 square feet to 44,300 square feet, which will help the hospital accommodate growing patient demand. The current ED was built to serve 17,000 annual patient visits. Current ED volume, however, has exceeded 51,000 annual visits.
The new facility will be named The Hirair and Anna Hovnanian Emergency Care Center in honor of the Hovnanian family, which donated $5 million to the project.
Construction is expected to be completed by February 2014.
