Mount Sinai Medical Center Unveils $440M Hess Center, New Logo

The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City announced the opening of its new $440 million Leon and Norma Hess Center for Science and Medicine, and the launch of a rebranding initiative.

The approximately 500,000-square-foot facility includes six floors of laboratory space and two floors of outpatient clinical space. The center will house the Ruttenberg Treatment Center, a diabetes center and new infusion and exam space.

In addition, the center will feature six institutes, including the Tisch Cancer Institute, the Friedman Brain Institute, the Zena and Michael A. Wiener Cardiovascular Institute, the Translational and Molecular Imaging Institute, The Mindich Child Health and Development Institute and the Icahn Institute for Genomics. The facility is expected to increase Mount Sinai's research capacity by 30 percent.

Coinciding with the opening of the Hess Center is the release of Mount Sinai's new brand, including a new logo. The logo is a series of intersected, multicolored lines in an inverted "v" shape. The shape is based on the historic Mount Sinai Mountain range, and the intersection of lines represents the connection between all members of the Mount Sinai community. The colors of the lines — cyan and deep magenta, which overlap to create violet — represent the various parts of Mount Sinai that "work together to create something new," according to the release.
