The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City announced the renaming of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine as the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in honor of Trustee Carl C. Icahn.
The Institute for Genomics and Multiscale Biology will also be renamed the Icahn Genomics Institute.
Mr. Icahn has been a trustee of the School of Medicine since 2000, and has made gifts for general medical research as well as specific research in genomics.
He most recently contributed $200 million to Mount Sinai's $1 billion capital campaign, leading the campaign to surpass its goal one year early. His gift includes approximately $50 million already given and $150 million to come, according to a New York Times report. The gift is the largest in Mount Sinai's history and among the biggest ever given to a medical school, according to the hospital news release.
