The highest-paying states for female physicians in 2022 were California, Oregon and Hawaii, a Medscape report found.
"A Good Year for Paychecks: Medscape Female Physician Compensation Report 2023," released Oct. 23, found that in 2022, the highest-paying states for both male and female physicians were Wisconsin, Indiana, Georgia and Connecticut.
Here are the regions ranked by highest paying for female physicians:
1. Pacific (Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington) — $314,000
2. West North Central (Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, Minnesota, Missouri, South Dakota) — $308,000
3. East Central (Alabama, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee, Wisconsin) — $300,000
4. Mid-Atlantic (Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania) — $296,000
4. South Atlantic (Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia) — $296,000
6. New England (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont) — $295,000
7. Mountain (Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming) — $294,000
7. West South Central (Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas) — $294,000
