Utah hospital opens new MRI wing

Gunnison (Utah) Valley Hospital opened a new MRI wing, the Daily Herald reported Jan. 1.

The new wing features an MRI room, a monitoring room, patient waiting area and recovery room. The hospital also upgraded its machinery to house a wide-bore MRI machine, which offers more space to reduce claustrophobia for patients. The suite also has ambient lighting, which decreases the need for sedation and makes the MRI experience more comfortable, according to the report.

"This is a long-awaited event," Gunnison Valley Hospital CEO Brenda Bartholomew told the Herald. "We have wanted a fixed MRI machine in our hospital for years. This will help us better serve our patients."

The wing, which had been in planning for five years, opened and began operations in mid-December.
