Although the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will cap consumers' out-of-pocket expenses for healthcare beginning next year, the federal government will allow higher caps for certain plans until 2015, according to a report by Kaiser Health News.
Health plans that use multiple third-party administrators don't have to add up all parties' out-of-pocket spending caps until 2015, meaning the caps for typical individuals and families could exceed the $6,350 and $12,700 respective out-of-pocket ceilings, according to the report. The delay leaves consumers particularly vulnerable for prescription drug expenses on many plans, according to the report.
