Humana Acquires Metropolitan Health Networks

Health insurer Humana announced it has acquired Metropolitan Health Networks, based in Boca Raton, Fla., in an approximately $850 million transaction.

Metropolitan is a medical services organization that coordinates primary care for Medicare Advantage and Medicaid beneficiaries.
Humana will settle Metropolitan’s debts and pay its shareholders $11.25 per share, according to a statement.

Humana initially announced the deal in November, at the same time it declared lower-than expected third-quarter profits.
