As healthcare entities covered under HIPAA implement Version 5010 transaction standards by Jan. 1, 2012, CMS issued a statement on how providers can meet Level II compliance.
According to the statement, most providers should have already completed Level I internal testing and should be beginning Level II external testing.
To meet Level II compliance, there are several trading partners that must be involved with the provider, such as billing services, clearinghouses, pharmacies, payors and entities responsible for coverage and benefit determinations. From there, providers should test the transactions that are used on a daily basis, which include claims, eligibility determinations, remittances and referral authorizations.
