Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper recently signed House Bill 1281 into law, which would establish a pilot program to create new payment methods in the state Medicaid program.
Reps. Dave Young (D-Greeley) and Cheri Gerou (R-Evergreen) sponsored the bill, which will aim to move more payments toward global budgets and away from fee-for-service. "The end result will be millions of dollars of savings for the state and better health for Colorado's Medicaid patients," Rep. Young said in a statement.
Under the law, Medicaid hospitals and other providers can submit payment reform proposals to Colorado's Medicaid agency, and approved programs will be implemented for two to five years.
